The month of January observes 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘖𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘩! Both of these are 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 for High Pressure Processing (𝗛𝗣𝗣). To celebrate, we thought we would share a few growing HPP categories with you this month: soup, overnight oats, ice cream ingredients, supplements, and skin care products.

5 Growing High Pressure Processing (HPP) Product Applications:

1) OVERNIGHT OATS

High Pressure Processing (HPP) is a unique food preservation method that utilizes cold water and high pressure (up to 87,000 psi) to naturally and safely keep fresh food products like soups free of pathogens without compromising flavor. Soup is a growing HPP application from the retail to the food service level, for shelf-life extension and food safety benefits.

2) OVERNIGHT OATS

There is a growing interest in High Pressure Processing for refrigerated overnight oat products. This product application works well due to its level of water activity, and the need to maintain the nutritional qualities of the other ingredients, like fruits. HPP improves product consistency, safety, and shelf-life.

3) ICE CREAM INGREDIENTS

High Pressure Processing is used to preserve ice cream ingredients. In addition to HPP preserving certain ice cream ingredients, like fruit purees, it can also help to improve the consistency of the ice cream mix. The pressure has been shown to enhance the thickness and creaminess of the mix, naturally reducing the need for added fats and emulsifiers.

4) SUPPLEMENTS

Applying High Pressure Processing to supplement & nutraceutical ingredients, like bovine components prior to freeze-drying, can reduce the microbial load and extend the shelf-life of the final product. Wellness shots, elixirs, and supplemental gels are other categories that work well with HPP for added safety and shelf-life benefits.

5) SKIN CARE

High Pressure Processing can be used on skin care products like creams and gels to improve product consistency, safety, and shelf-life. HPP offers the possibility of developing products with ingredients that are natural, organic and ecological. The main advantage of HPP for this application is that it maintains the color and texture, allowing the development of formulas free of chemical additives.
